The Tammy Faye Biopic
In the battle between faith and wealth, it's a knockout win for materialism in this director's delightfully tacky film adaptation of the disgraced televangelist and her criminal husband. Andrew Garfield plays the greedy Jim, who declares at the beginning, asserting religious justification for riches. The couple commence profiting from the people's spiritual convictions. It's a spectacle of poor styling, bad makeup and insincerity, yet the lead actress manages to present the real-life figure as a sympathetic figure. Next Tuesday, early morning, on Film4
