The Reform UK leader Accuses Educators of ‘Indoctrinating Children’ on Racial Topics
Nigel Farage has asserted that teachers would go on strike within weeks a success at the polls for his party, accusing them of “harming young minds” by telling students that black pupils are victims and white children oppressors.
During an event for a Michigan-based religious institution, Farage outlined his perspective on British schools, claiming that the “Marxist left” had “taken over schooling”.
“I expect a walkout by educators soon after securing a victory,” Farage commented in response to questions.
“They are poisoning our kids. They are telling them to feel guilt about their nation. They inform little Johnny, who’s eight, who is black that he is a victim and a white child of the same age that he is a perpetrator. They are dividing us, instead of fostering unity. They are feeding this negative culture.”
Reacting to these assertions, the head of a major education union rejected the idea that the education system was controlled by Marxists as “nonsense”. He pointed out that industrial action must relate to educators’ working conditions, and questioned whether the party would target these right after taking office.
“Farage has built his political career on coded rhetoric and now, like Trump, he is targeting educators and their organizations for a conflict,” the union leader said.
“I think that’s grossly irresponsible. Neither I nor our union – advocate such divisive theories as he’s suggesting … Should he become prime minister he would sell out our public services, including education … and the outcome would be catastrophic for education and children.”
Reform, which is leading the polls by a significant margin, has not set out much detail on its educational plans and does not appear to have designated an education lead.
Nonetheless, Farage’s remarks indicated the group would reform the educational framework. He said: “We have got a massive job with education – absolutely herculean. And, it won’t happen quickly; it will take us years, a long-term effort to reform.”
He stated that younger generations are receptive to critical thinking, but millennials were “absolutely hopeless”.
Paying tribute to Charlie Kirk, he commented: “All I want education to do to teach critical thinking – to educate individuals that multiple perspectives exist and you make up your own mind as opposed to current practices where views are labeled good or bad. It’s a massive job in the UK and US.”
Reform has previously clashed with the UK’s largest teaching union, after the union leader labeled them “extremist and prejudiced” and dismissed Farage as “a poundshop Donald Trump”.
The politician has charged Kebede of being “a self-declared Marxist” … someone who is absolutely determined that young minds be corrupted through education, their minds should be poisoned about everything to do with this country” and has argued that the organization seeks to brainwash teenagers against Reform.
Roughly a million individuals are employed in education in the UK, about half of whom are teachers and the others teaching assistants and support staff. The major education union has hundreds of thousands of members.
Countrywide walkouts over teacher pay and conditions in recent years caused widespread disruption in educational institutions and extensive missed instruction for children.
At the US event, the Reform leader also pledged to help spread the online educational material of the institution in the UK. He said such groups were “key to resistance”, adding that: “I mean this. I will help attract vast numbers of young people to these educational programs. I make that commitment tonight and I’ll do that.”
The institution, a religious educational establishment, offers free courses. Its website states: “Comprehensive learning is vital for well-being and to perpetuate the blessings of freedom. It offers these excellent programs for no charge to every interested learner.”
