The Red Devils Poised to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants
Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.
A Major Signing for the WSL Side
Schüller, who has half a year left on her contract, has been a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing is viewed as a marquee signing for the WSL side.
Departure from Bayern has been anticipated since she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top forwards. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.
Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Forward Line
The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a significant boost to the team's forward line. Schüller has been highly reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Building Steam at Old Trafford
Securing the German international coincides with a period when United seem to be gathering positive momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the mid-season window has brought further activity:
- The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.
Regarding the midfielder's new deal, a club official stated: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
Lundkvist, who has joined from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
