The network's Top Fresh Series of This Year Earns a Major Extension for an Additional Two Seasons.

During the fall season, Adult Swim debuted a new season of its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, shortly thereafter, the channel introduced a brand-new animated series with a markedly softer feel. Haha, You Clowns emerged as heartwarming and calm, evoking a cartoon version of a contemplative talk show. At a time often marked by dark humor, this show's wholesomeness resonated deeply and helped it become a breakout hit.

A Major Commitment

In mid-December, Adult Swim confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two additional seasons. This provides showrunner Joe Cappa a massive runway to develop the world of the Campbell family. The show centers on three respectful teenage brothers whose central trait is their strong bond for their widowed father, with Cappa voicing for all four key characters.

"I’m so grateful to the fans of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and spread the word," said Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for a little longer."

A President's Endorsement

Accompanying the news laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and oddly captivating." He shouted out the fans who found the show and advocated for its peculiarly charming sensibility.

"All of you got behind this new show, praised it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Different Kind of Comedy

When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a gentle counterpart" to other adult animated fare. It offers something surprisingly comfy about following this endearing family navigate their daily lives.

In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa stated his desire to move the comedy genre beyond its current sarcastic tone. He linked this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.

“There's this level of irony that we are trapped in,” said Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we just have to laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”

Future Seasons

Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa could potentially be part of that change he described. Or at the very least, the renewal ensures audiences additional episodes to experience the heartfelt moments of the beloved Campbell clan.

The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. The entire series is available for streaming on HBO Max.
