The Gruesome Cartoon Film Ending That Lingers Fans
Out of every mature animated films I’ve ever viewed, nothing has stuck with me as much as the dread-soaked finale of the viscerally violent and highly provocative film from 2022 Unicorn Wars.
Back in the year 2015, the Spanish filmmaker crafted a grim, bleak and frequently brutal world that included some tiny , forlorn hints of hope.
Although Unicorn Wars appears as it originated from a desire to expand the medium further, the filmmaker stated that it was more an attempt to convey a widespread, cross-cultural message about “the shared root of every conflict.”
That idea is communicated through a band of brightly hued teddy bears , clearly based on a well-known series of lovable characters.
Growing up in a society centered on militarism as well as the military-industrial complex, numerous these creatures are fixated on killing unicorns, because of a religious scripture that tells the bears they were once rulers of the woods, before these creatures expelled them.
Some did not entirely accepted the propaganda, , prefer to experiment with narcotics or fornicate in the forest.
Unlike their cuddly equivalents, these vivid animals display genitals , definite libidos.
For a certain particularly cruel, cynical bear, Bluey, the war with the unicorns becomes a road to control — and especially to authority above his softer, more compassionate sibling the character Tubby.
This bear behaves aggressively and an apparent psychopath , and when terror overcomes his squad and claims his comrades individually, he takes increasingly control personally, through ever more violent, damaging approaches.
Meanwhile, the unicorns are suffering their own terror, through an expanding, deadly beast in their woods.
“Initially, it feels like a lighthearted film,” the filmmaker said. “However it becomes a more dramatic and sad movie. And in the finale, it transforms into a terrifying movie.”
Unicorn Wars begins resembling one of the most playful movies from an iconic filmmaker, that discover a wicked pleasure in permitting animated figures curse, engage in violence, or have intimate relations.
Subsequently it evolves into more akin to a darker movie by that same director, with increasingly visual gore , a tangible relation to the real horror of battle.
In the finale, it is a full-on Grand Guignol massacre.
The horror which makes the film a perfect Halloween watch kicks in well before than that description suggests.
Unicorn Wars is suited for the most dedicated lovers of violence, for fans of intense movies who wish to watch a movie they’ve never seen on-screen before, and who can handle a narrative that offers unflinching brutality.
View it with the lights off with no disturbances, and the finale will dig under your skin and stay with you.
