The visionary game developer, who helped create the globally famous first-person shooter Call of Duty, has passed away in a traffic collision in Los Angeles, California aged 55.

Zampella's death was announced by Electronic Arts, the parent company of Respawn Entertainment, the video game company he co-founded.

The celebrated game designer lost his life when his car crashed and was engulfed in flames on a freeway in LA on this past Sunday, according to.

"We are facing an unimaginable loss, and our hearts are with Vince's family, his family, and the countless individuals inspired by his creative vision," an official with Electronic Arts said.
