Jurgen Klopp says a return to lead Liverpool is conceivable.
Jurgen Klopp, who stepped down from Liverpool in 2024, remarked that returning someday is something that could happen. The 58-year-old, following a hugely successful near-decade reign which brought continental glory and ending the club's long wait in 30 years, has since taken on roles as head of global soccer for Red Bull and as an advisor for the DFL.
Supporters’ Hopes and Klopp’s Candid Remarks
The club claimed the league title under Arne Slot, but many fans who adore the manager would embrace the idea that he may eventually return. During an extensive chat, he shared with Steven Bartlett: “I said I won't manage a different club on English soil. Which implies in case it's my former club...yes. Theoretically it’s possible.”
“Being 58, so I might decide in a few years, I don’t know. Is a decision required immediately? Then I will not coach again. But thank God, it's not necessary. I can just see how things unfold.”
Conditions for a Comeback
Questioned regarding which situations must arise to draw him back to management, he confessed he feels no immediate pull to such a return. “It's unclear to me, My present work fulfills me,” he stated. “No longing for management; I don’t miss standing in the rain for lengthy sessions; No need for interviews repeatedly each week or having 10-12 interviews weekly.
“No nostalgia for the changing area per se, but sitting in a restaurant with the players having a nice chat, is pleasant. With many victories so there was often a very good mood in the building. I can still hear Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh vividly recalled to illustrate.”
Praise for His Successor
He spoke highly of the current boss, praising him for the tweaks that took the title in the previous season. Liverpool have lost four in a row in all competitions following significant transfers, yet he dismissed the suggestion it could be the start of a downward turn.
“[Liverpool have] a phenomenal forward such as Wirtz, critics will regret with negative comments. A remarkable prospect. [Hugo] Ekitike, superb talent. They have a strong balanced team. No need for concern regarding the Reds, they will be fine.”
Heartfelt Words for the Late Forward
He shared movingly regarding the passing of Jota, a 2020 acquisition during his tenure, along with the consequences at the club. The forward was killed in a road accident together with his sibling in July.
“Can you substitute somebody like Diogo? It’s not about his on-field talent, it's his character. I can’t imagine the dressing room absent his presence. I still cannot speak properly about it. A devastating blow for his teammates also. Nobody at Liverpool would cite it for poor performances though it's a fact. Entering the changing area which he filled completely. Coping with it on a personal level is challenging. Overwhelming.”
