Iran Claims Attack on US Base in Bahrain, During Regional Military Operations.
Iran's military claims to have hit a US naval base in Bahrain, as Iran launched operations throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a significant and continuing offensive targeting the nation by the United States and Israeli forces.
Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an zone in the area of the command center of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The extent of any destruction is uncertain and the United States has remained silent.
Airspace Engagements
Elsewhere across the region, the United Arab Emirates, the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait - all home to US military bases - reported they have shot down incoming projectiles in their airspace.
In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry announced it had intercepted a number of projectiles apparently targeting the Al Udeid Air Base, the largest American base in the Middle East.
Operation "Truthful Promise 4"
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard stated it was targeting American facilities and interests as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the strikes on Iran launched by the US and Israel on Saturday.
That initial attack - executed at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far targeted areas linked to the the regime, with US President Donald Trump calling on the Iranian people to revolt against the government.
Wider Impacts
In the State of Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israel Defense Forces said it had identified an barrage of missiles from Iran.
The defence ministry of the United Arab Emirates said in a statement that the nation has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"Emirati air defenses engaged the projectiles with high efficiency and shot down a number of missiles," it added.
It said wreckage fell on a neighborhood in the capital, resulting in some material damage and killing a civilian.
The United States Air Force is stationed at the Al Dhafra base, south of the Emirati capital, along with the UAE Air Force.
