Brian Eno Calls On Support to Get Together for Palestine Track to UK Festive Top Spot.
A charity drive is aiming to propel a traditional song from Palestine to the peak of the festive singles chart. The project hopes to provide aid to Gaza's residents while also showcasing Palestinian cultural expression.
A Possibility for Support and an "Unlikely Coup"
Composer and producer Brian Eno, who contributes to the track, stated that the song titled Lullaby represents a opportunity to support Palestinians over the Christmas period. He noted the potential for an unexpected chart success.
“It would be fantastic if that happened, yes,” he said. “I wouldn't be completely disheartened if it doesn't manage to, Christmas singles are a category of their own.”
Defiant Message of Dignity and Freedom
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who features in the version of a cultural piece called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the song's resilient spirit.
“It occupies a deeply meaningful spot for many individuals,” Barghouti said. “The message is that I would prefer a dignified death than live a life without freedom. That is the core idea of the song; we desire to exist a life of dignity that we merit as a people.”
Recording Origins and Star-Studded Lineup
The track was produced following a large-scale benefit event held in late summer. Originally intended to be captured during the live event, the piece was cut from the show due to the event running long.
The diverse array of performers contributing to Lullaby includes a range of acclaimed names from the scene. All were part of the earlier concert, which reportedly raised a significant sum for relief efforts.
Production and Release
Lullaby was produced by a team of producers and composers. The song blends a fusion of the original Arabic with contemporary English verses.
The organizers behind the initiative have clarified that their aim is to collect the highest amount for a dedicated fund. These proceeds will be distributed to Palestinian causes through an established charity.
“We don’t have a fixed goal,” a figure said. “We aim for as much as possible. Naturally, the more the merrier. It all goes out to Gaza.”
The reality in the region was described as its widespread damage, with a vast majority of infrastructure described as levelled or seriously harmed.
“Against that backdrop, a couple of million won't make a massive dent. But I think the significant factor is primarily raising awareness for this issue and proving there’s another side to the story.”
The song is scheduled for release at the end of the week. Additionally, a full recording of the benefit event will be made ready to watch on a major video platform from mid-December.
